Economics
Department of Economics – under the School of Arts Science and Humanities – is a humble beginning in the year 2016 to impart quality education in economics and to promote Higher Education and Research that seeks to provide policy solutions for economic problems faced by the country. The department has adequate faculty members with different specializations. Also, it invites Professors of national repute to take classes and share their expertise. The department offers many emerging, research oriented, mathematical and econometrics based elective courses in BA and MA Economics. To equip the students with research skills and prepare them for various avenues of employment, the department provides research methodology and dissertation courses. As a leading teaching and research institute in India, the department holds field surveys, seminars, conferences, symposiums, panel discussions and interactive sessions regularly in the areas of Rural Water Supply, Tribal Economics, Development Economics, Industrial Economics, Rural Economics, Environmental Economics, Agricultural Economics, Tourism Economics, Studies on Women Empowerment through Self-Help Groups and so on.

Mission
- The mission of the Economics Department at SPIHER is to prepare students for acquiring applied knowledge of economics to enhance their employability and entrepreneurship.
- Imparting high quality undergraduate and postgraduate teaching coupled with cutting edge research activity. The thrust is to make the students engaged in analytical and applied economics tools and try to implement them in everyday lives and solve crucial socio-economic issues and challenges ahead.

Programme Educational Objectives (PEOs)
PEO1: Demonstrate their skills in solving challenges in their chosen field through the core foundation and knowledge acquired in biology, medicine and engineering.
PEO2: Display leadership, make decisions with societal and ethical responsibilities, function and communicate effectively in multidisciplinary settings.
PEO3: Recognize the need for sustaining and expanding their technical competence and engage in learning opportunities throughout their career and life.
Programme Outcomes (POs)
PO1: Students learn the initiatives taken by the government on rural drinking water supply.
PO2: Students can understand the methodology to be adopted for selection of sample projects
PO3: To measure the quantity of water distributed at habitation/HH level.
PO4: Students may understand the nuances of distribution of combined water supply scheme
PO5: Students may aware of economic and social impact of rural drinking water related issues.

PSO1: To apply advanced technology for measurement and interpretation of biological data addressing the issues associated with the interface between living and non-living systems.
PSO2: To utilize mathematics, software tools, science and engineering for accurate diagnosis and therapy.
PSO3: To develop and improve information system in healthcare for automated and remote access.
