The department of Commerce was started in the year 2016 with objectives of promoting teaching, research and to produce employable graduates in area of business, commerce and allied areas. The Department offers B.Com (CS), M.Com, and M.Phil. and Ph.D. programmes from the academic year 2017- 2018. This courses specializes in Accounting, Finance, Marketing, Human Resource Management, Banking, Tax management, Insurance, Business environment.

The department aims to develop students to be highly efficient leaders and managers. It imparts realistic education catering to contemporary industrial demands. The department teaches the syllabi through learner- centered teaching methods such as case studies, field visits, and project work. To be a global Centre of excellence for training and research in the field of commerce.

The department offers the value added certificate courses namely, Software Office Automation Tolls, Statistical Package for Social Science and Tally. To be a global centre of excellence for training and research in the field of commerce. To promote valued based education for the personality development and leadership qualities.

From the academic year 2016- 2017 the university follows Choice Based Credit System for UG, PG courses and M.Phil. proramme.

B.Com. – Corporate Secretaryship

The programme is designed to bridge the gap between conceptual learning and practical application and to inculcate professional and corporate administration, corporate finance direct and indirect tax levels and secretarial. Advancement of knowledge and professional application of skills to meet the global demands.To gain secretarial knowledge. To make the students to accustom to the corporate environment. This progrmme compresses the core courses and elective courses namely accounting for finance, cost and management, Business economics, Indian economy, Company law and Secretarial practice, Marketing, Human Resource Management, Direct and Indirect Tax Management, Banking and Business environment and Ethics. It is a full time regular programme of three years duration consisting of six semester.The total credit for the B.Com (Corporate Secretaryship) Degree Programme (6 semesters) is 141 Credits.

Eligibility:  Candidates who passed Higher Secondary Examinations conducted by the Government of Tamil Nadu or CBSE or an Examinations accepted by the University as equivalent thereto are eligible for admission to three year B Com (Corporate Secretaryship) Degree Programme .

The primary objectives of this commerce is to offer quality management education to students on par with global standard. The courses of M.Com are periodically updated and designed according to the development in the internal and external sector of Indian economy and global market. This progrmme compresses the core courses and elective courses namely accounting for finance, cost and management, Marketing, Human Resource Management, Direct and Indirect Tax Management, Banking and Business environment and Ethics. It is a full time regular programme of two years duration consisting of four semester.The total credit for the M.Com Degree Programme (6 semesters) is 90 Credits.

M.Phil.(Full time) & Ph.D.(Full time and Part time) – Commerce

The department has been upgraded with a research department in 2017 with the starting of M.Phil.andPh.D. programme in commerce. The key objectives of research programme is develop researchers and scholars in the discipline of commerce and to foster and stimulate academic and research work in commerce. Research contributes content to teaching. Any quality teaching draws on quality research. To encouraging and support socially relevant and need based research coupled with human values. The student keep with latest development in their discipline by presenting research paper in various conferences, to eminent business leader. M.Phil. programme compresses the core courses namely, Business Research Methods, Emerging Trends in Commerce and elective courses namely,Advanced Financial Management, International Marketing, Human Resource Management. The course shall extend over a period of one year academic year consisting of two semester.The total credit for the M.Phil.  Degree Programme is 30 Credits. The M.Phil and Ph.D Students are admitted through entrance tests and interviews. The whole admission process is closely monitored and controlled by Dean of Research and Development and admission committee constituted every academic year.

Eligibility: Candidates who have secured a minimum of 55% in aggregate in M.Com (General or with any other specialization) degree of this university (or) its equivalent course recognized by the Madras university are eligible to apply for M.Phil. and Ph.D. in Commerce.
