The objectives of the Master of Engineering Science (Advanced Manufacturing Technology) postgraduate course is to provide students with an understanding of specific advanced body of knowledge and emerging manufacturing technologies and skills relating to the application and implementation of these technologies in modern industry within both global and local contexts. It is expected that the graduates from this course will be sufficiently competent to direct the design, development and implementation of specific technologies and/or processes addressed during the course in the context of a particular organization.
Career Opportunities
The course offers the opportunity for employment with manufacturing companies intending to implement different levels of advanced manufacturing technologies. Graduates may find employment as design engineers, manufacturing engineers, production engineers, engineering managers, systems engineers, or research and development engineers in companies such as automotive, appliances manufacturing and discrete manufacturing intending to adopt advanced manufacturing technologies to enhance the productivity and competitive advantage in the global market.
Communication is the fastest growing segment of the industry and has been experiencing exponential growth over the last decade. This programme is an advanced level course in the field of Communication Engineering offering a specialization in terms of technology and applications to fulfill the requirements of the industry.
This programme makes the students out-rival in both hardware design and communication software design. It deals with an application of communication engineering principles based on a solid foundation in signal processing, baseband and band pass communication signal design, radiation systems, electromagnetic, wireless and optical media challenges for transmission and networking and high frequency processing circuits, to solve engineering problems and to address the technological challenges of the future communication needs.
Biomedical engineering is the application of the principles and problem-solving techniques of engineering to biology and medicine. This is evident throughout healthcare, from diagnosis and analysis to treatment and recovery, and has entered the public conscience though the proliferation of implantable medical devices, such as pacemakers and artificial hips.
Biomedical engineering focuses on the advances that improve human health and health care at all levels. Biomedical engineers differ from other engineering disciplines that have an influence on human health in that biomedical engineers use and apply an intimate knowledge of modern biological principles in their engineering design process. There are many sub disciplines within biomedical engineering, including the design and development of active and passive medical devices, orthopedic implants, medical imaging, biomedical signal processing, tissue and stem cell engineering, and clinical engineering.
The department offers M.E., degree course in Computer Science and Engineering. The duration of the course is 2 years which is divided into 4 semesters, with each semester lasting a period of 6 months. During first two semesters, the curriculum focuses more on theoretical and its associated practical and experiment sessions. In the last two semesters, more priority is given to project work.
M.E., Computer Science and Engineering program revolves around concepts and topics such as networking, Information Technology, Web Technology, Programming, Software Engineering, Logic and Algorithm etc. Though these topics were present at the UG level, the curriculum and syllabi is much more advanced and detailed in the PG level of Computer Science and Engineering.

The M.E (Power Electronics and Drives) programme is one of the main specialization areas often preferred by students with electrical, electronics, instrumentation and other relevant background. This Programme is being offered at SPIHER, Chennai from 2005. This Programme caters to the needs of industries ranging from domestic appliance manufacturers to high end automation service providers. One of the key highlights of the M.E Programme being offered at SPIHER, Chennai is the research experience gained by the students .In EEE, there is growing awareness that the future training and education of electrical engineers in the industry needs to be in the area of highly efficient, industry-relevant skills formation, to enable frequent and rapid deployment of professional skills in new areas. As a step in this direction, the postgraduate programs in power electronics & drives is evolved.
Objectives & Scope
While undergoing the Programme, students will enrich their learning by
(i) doing project internships at reputed industries and being absorbed in the same industry
(ii) carrying out research works; the outcomes of which are published in conferences and journals,
(ii) listening to guest lectures, keynote addresses,
(iii) visiting to industries and participating in professional activities.
